Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer Claims Top Honor at 2024 SAG Awards and Takes Home Seven Wins at the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards

Universal Pictures and Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer — which became the highest-ever grossing biopic at over $950 million worldwide— stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. The film was part of historic cultural phenomenon and brought attention to the story J. Robert Oppenheimer through the film itself as well as numerous collaborative NBC News specials and more.
Recently, the film has been recognized by the Screen Actors Guild, Producers Guild, and The British Academy Film Awards, in addition to winning five Golden Globes earlier this year. Oppenheimer is heading into Oscars weekend with 13 nominations, the most of any film this year. The 96th Annual Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 10th at the Dolby Theatre.
Oppenheimer and The Holdovers at Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAGs) and Producers Guild Awards (PAGs)
The 30th annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards honor the best in film and television acting over the past year. Universal Pictures and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer took the top prize, winning Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. Oppenheimer also took home the prizes for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role with Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer and Outstanding Male Performance by a Male Actor in a Support Role with Robert Downey Jr. as Lewis Strauss. These were the first SAG wins for Cillian Murphy & Robert Downey Jr.
Focus Feature’s The Holdovers star Da’Vine Joy Randolph won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mary Lamb, where she plays the head cook at an elite New England boarding school.
Oppenheimer also took home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures at the 35th Annual Producers Guild Award, which marked the first PGA win for Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas.
Oppenheimer and The Holdovers Shine at the 2024 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs)
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts honored Universal Pictures and Focus Features at the 77th British Academy Film Awards with a total of 10 BAFTA awards, led by Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. The BAFTAs have been known to be Britain’s equivalent to the Oscars.
Oppenheimer walked away with Best Film, Best Director (Christopher Nolan), Best Leading Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Original Score.
These accolades for Oppenheimer add to a growing list that includes Christopher Nolan’s first win at the Directors Guild of America for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, five Golden Globes and eight Critics Choice Awards, being named Best Picture by both of those organizations. During Nolan’s acceptance speech, the London native reminisced about visiting the London’s Royal Festival Hall where the BAFTAs ceremony took place, as a child with his family.

Focus Features' The Holdovers and Earth Mama Garner BAFTA Accolades
Focus Features also received three BAFTA wins, including two for The Holdovers in Best Supporting Actress (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) and Best Casting, as well as Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer for their international title, Earth Mama.
