In 1912, Carl Laemmle founded Universal with the purpose of establishing a film company that would create and distribute its own films -- one of the first of its time. Opening the Studio gates to guests in 1915, he created a space for the community to learn how silent films were made and admire the creativity and skill coming from the new world of motion pictures. This vision of independence and creativity laid the foundation for Universal and "One Universal" honors that history while showing our commitment to the future of the industry.

In 2016, the transformative joint endeavor by LEVER Architecture and Field Operations kicked off an ambitious renovation to bring sustainability and connectivity to talent and employees and to stimulate tourism. Central to this are the creative office building, One Universal, and the employee center, The Commons, and The Paseo, bringing functionality, creativity and cross sections of the businesses and our creative partners together.

Fostering a Culture of Innovation and Creativity

Comcast NBCUniversal is truly investing in its people and its infrastructure, as well as cultivating in the advancement in the future of the entertainment industry. This is the place to work, dine, and connect with the larger entertainment and media community.

Fully blending indoor and outdoor spaces, this campus redesign seeks to foster creativity and innovation by encouraging people to leave their workspaces and studios, inviting chance interactions and bringing creativity into inspiring communal spaces. This development demonstrates our commitment to the future of the industry with a place employees, talent and partners can create, innovate and collaborate.

There are a number of agile workspaces encouraging employees to move freely around the property, finding the environment that suits both their business objectives and their comfort level. We’ve given our employees and their partners the freedom to choose where and how they want to collaborate, thus nurturing their creativity and allowing for more connection.

We dare to ask the questions “Can a space really inspire?” And to Brian Roberts, Donna Langley and the entire Comcast NBCUniversal leadership team, the answer is a resounding “yes.” Each element we’ve curated to transform from a traditional studio lot to an urban campus is designed with the vision and strategic planning to inspire innovation and creativity amongst employees, their industry partners, and the community at-large.
