NBCUniversal Awards 2017 AFI DOCS Impact Grants
October 23, 2017
For the third year in a row, NBCUniversal proudly supported The American Film Institute’s Documentary Film Festival (AFI DOCS) in Washington D.C. AFI DOCS is one of the most noteworthy documentary film festivals in the world. Each year it screens over 112 documentary feature and short films from 28 Countries, showcasing dynamic storytelling on compelling, critical and enlightening subjects. The festival gathers artists, audiences and political leaders in an effort to harness the power of documentary filmmaking to inspire change.
NBCUniversal is not only a sponsor of the Film Festival, but also the co-creator and major supporter of the AFI DOCS Impact Lab. In partnership with Universal Pictures, NBCUniversal funded a two-day intensive program that provides select documentary filmmakers with training in advocacy, community organizing, and technology to engage viewers.
Each participating film in the Impact Lab was eligible to apply for AFI DOCS/NBCUniversal Impact Grant. The grant funds outreach and social action campaigns for the winning documentaries. The outreach is conducted in an effort to effectively engage on broad social and political change through the power of film at a grassroots level.
