NBCUniversal Celebrates NFL Kickoff Weekend with Special TODAY Segments, B1G Saturday Night and Sunday Night Football

NBC Sports Presents Two Games on NFL Kickoff Weekend along with B1G Saturday Night and TODAY Show’s "Inside The Game"

The celebrations start on Thursday, September 7 at 8:20pm ET when the reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the Detroit Lions in the NFL Kickoff Game. Football Night in America coverage will begin at 7:00pm ET and fans can watch the game on NBC, Peacock and Universo.

On Friday morning, TODAY kicks off “Inside The Game”, their weekly series featuring special coverage of the NFL including exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the biggest games in football.

  • TODAY correspondent Kaylee Hartung reported live from Kansas City alongside NBC Sports’ Mike Tirico for the Chiefs’ kick-off game Thursday, September 7.
  • Every Friday, TODAY Food will spotlight chefs on the plaza or in Studio 1A from the cities of that weekend’s Sunday Night Football game.
  • As part of “Inside The Game,” TODAY will host a tailgate at Met-Life Stadium Sunday, September 10. The segment will air Monday, September 11, featuring special surprises and the anchors will be joined by a brave group of children who are cancer survivors.

NBC Sports’ college football slate this Saturday, Sept. 9, features No. 7 Penn State (1-0) hosting Delaware at Noon ET exclusively on Peacock and Maryland (1-0) facing Charlotte in primetime on B1G Saturday Night. Coverage begins at 7:00pm ET on NBC and Peacock. Last Saturday, NBC Sports kicked off its new Big Ten partnership on NBC and Peacock with two of college football’s top seven teams – No. 2 Michigan and No. 7 Penn State – securing double-digit home victories against non-conference opponents.
 
Saturday’s Peacock-exclusive game (East Carolina-Michigan) was the most-streamed college football game in NBC Sports’ history The debut of B1G Saturday Night franchise, with No. 7 Penn State’s 38-15 victory over West Virginia, was the second-most watched Labor Day Saturday primetime show on NBC since 2015.

In the season opener of Sunday Night Football on Sunday, September 10, NFC East rivals, the Dallas Cowboys meet the New York Giants at Met-Life Stadium kicking off at 8:20pm ET. Sunday Night Football returns for its 17th season on NBC, Peacock and Universo. Coverage begins at 7:00pm ET with Football Night in America, the most-watched studio show in sports.
