NBCUniversal offers a variety of internship programs that provide students with hands-on experience in the media and entertainment industry. These internships offer a chance for students to explore different departments within the company, including TV production, marketing, news, and digital media. Interns work closely with professionals, gaining valuable insights into the daily operations of NBCUniversal.
This past summer, more than 500 interns worked across 13 locations and represented over 150 universities. Interns worked across 20 business segments in iconic offices including the NBC Washington DC News Bureau, 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and the Universal Studios back lot.
Hear from NBCUniversal interns as they reflect on their summer and what their time at NBCUniversal has meant for them both personally and professionally:
Andrea Smith, NBC News Intern
What’s been the best part about the NBCU summer internship program?
“I would say the best part of interning here at NBC at the DC Bureau is just being surrounded by arguably the best journalists in the world and just really absorbing all their knowledge and wisdom in covering the nation’s most historic moments. It has just been so incredible.”
What makes interning at NBCU unique?
“What makes being an intern here so unique is really the culture here at NBCU. Their motto is Here You Can. And as an intern here I’ve really felt that, just even being able to pitch my own stories or go out with reporters on shoots, it’s just been amazing.”
Bitiyah Asaliew, Universal Pictures Intern
Describe what it feels like to get to work in such an iconic location.
“I work at the iconic Universal Studios back lot, right next to the parks, and working in these offices feels so full circle because I remember being younger, going on the studio tour, driving by here, and now I work here, so it feels very full circle and surreal.”
Tell us about your experience with the learning & development / workshop components of the program.
“I think the best learning experience from my internship is definitely all the people I've gotten to meet. Taking coffee chats with people in different departments has been so helpful in figuring out what I'm most interested in and everyone is just so open to sharing their own stories and what their teams do.”
Lauren Bleszsinki, NBC Local Integrated Marketing and Sales Intern
What intern benefits or perks did you take advantage of over the summer?
“My favorite intern benefit this summer definitely had to have been our streaming service, Peacock. So not only were my favorite shows available on Peacock, but it was also amazing to watch it from a sales marketing point of view because we sell all of our integrations for Peacock. So I absolutely loved that.”
What’s been the best part about the NBCU summer internship program?
“I would say the best part about interning here at NBCU is obviously the hands on real world experience you'll get within just a short three months. However, truly my favorite best part is all the relationships I've gotten to make so far. Everyone has truly taken me under their wing here.”
Avery Grosvenor, NBC News Specials Unit Intern
What did you work on over the summer?
“This summer I'm interning in New York and it's so exciting. I get to work at 30 Rock. I've been dreaming about working there since I can honestly remember, and it's just great to be in the mix and to be in the place where a lot of the decisions are made for the whole network.”
One of the unique benefits of interning at NBCU is our dedicated Internship Experience Team, how did they help you navigate your role? Did you utilize their services in anyway?
“The NBC Internship Experience Team is always a massive help with getting your face in front of the people that you need to make connections with during your internship. It's easy to get lost in the day-to-day, but the Internship Experience Team has helped me kind of get my foot in the door with the right people that's going to excel my career forward.”
Sarah Molot, E! Creative Intern
What is your advice to a student interested in interning at NBCU?
“My advice to anyone who's interested in NBCU internships is to just apply for anything you might even remotely like, even if you don't expect it, even if you think you might not be fully perfectly qualified. Just try and talk to people and you never know where you're going to end up. I ended up in California. I'm from Maryland. Anything can happen.”
What makes interning at NBCU unique?
“I think what makes an internship with NBC so unique is how much the company truly values us. There are so many events specifically for interns learning sessions for us to get to know more, and National Intern Day is something celebrated throughout the entire company. The company truly loves their interns and the feeling is mutual.”
Thank you to all NBCUniversal interns for their hard work and dedication!
