Telemundo Station Group’s ‘Our Planet’ Climate Change Campaign, Highlighted by Investigative Documentary, Launches March 28

Multiplatform Content Initiative Culminates with Earth Day Premiere of ‘Our Planet: Voices of Climate Change’ on Telemundo-Owned Stations & NBCU Local’s Streaming News Channels

Telemundo Station Group, part of NBCUniversal Local, is launching a monthlong climate change campaign, Our Planet, tomorrow, Thursday, March 28. The multiplatform content initiative culminates on Earth Day, April 22, with the premiere of investigative documentary Our Planet: Voices of Climate Change on Telemundo-owned stations and NBCUniversal Local’s streaming news channels. 

Our Planet: Voices of Climate Change – produced by Telemundo 31 Orlando / WTMO – is a journalistic and scientific examination of climate change and its effects on lives and livelihoods. Led by journalists and meteorologists from Telemundo-owned stations, the program takes viewers to Alaska, California, Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico and Mexico. The feature documentary includes more than a dozen interviews with community members, scientists and climate experts, who provide personal experiences and insights. 

In addition to Our Planet: Voices of Climate Change, a pair of complementary specials are part of Our Planet. From now through Earth Day, the half-hour Our Planet: Stories That Connect Us, which delivers bonus content gathered during documentary production, is being presented on NBCU Local’s streaming news channels. In addition, Our Planet: Behind the Scenes, chronicling the production team’s on-location experiences – which began in September 2023 – will debut April 22 alongside the documentary.

Our Planet includes a series of special segments that will be featured during Telemundo-owned stations’ newscasts on Thursdays through Earth Day, beginning tomorrow, March 28. The Our Planet stories will detail the effects climate change and other environmental issues are having on our communities. The news stories will also be available on the Telemundo-owned stations’ streaming and digital platforms.

Our Planet programs feature meteorologists from across Telemundo Station Group. They are Gabriella Dellán, Telemundo Station Group Meteorologist; Pablo Sánchez, Lead Meteorologist for Telemundo Houston; Alexis Orengo, Chief Meteorologist for Telemundo 31 Orlando; Ariel Rodríguez, Meteorologist for Telemundo 51 Miami; Brenda Cantú, Chief Meteorologist for Telemundo 40 Rio Grande Valley. 

Several Telemundo-owned stations’ journalists contributed to the documentary, including Yisel Tejeda, Anchor for Telemundo 31 Orlando; Dunia Elvir, Anchor for Telemundo 52 Los Ángeles; Claudia de la Fuente, Anchor for Telemundo 48 Área de la Bahía; Ana Méndez, Reporter for Telemundo Station Group’s Mexico Bureau; and Jorge Almaraz, Anchor for Telemundo 40 Rio Grande Valley, who serves as the narrator. 

Emilio Ramos de Jesus, Telemundo 31 Orlando’s Multiplatform Content Leadserves as the lead producer for Our Planet, andArnaldo Ginés from Telemundo 39 and NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth oversees photography, creative and editing for the programs. Andrea Cruz, a Telemundo News Service reporter and producer, and Sandra Perez, News Director for Telemundo 48 Área de la Bahía, serve as producers.

On April 22, Our Planet: Voices of Climate Change will premiere as a half-hour special on the 30 Telemundo-owned stations in the U.S. at 11 a.m. EDT / PDT and 10 a.m. CDT / MDT and on Telemundo Puerto Rico / WKAQ on April 21 at 5:30 p.m. ADT. A one-hour edition will debut on the Telemundo regional news streaming channels at 9 p.m. EDT / PDT and 8 p.m. CDT, with a half-hour English-language version premiering on the NBC local news streaming channels at 9 p.m. nationwide. 

The half-hour and extended one-hour editions of Our Planet: Voices of Climate Change and Our Planet: Behind the Scenes will encore multiple times across Telemundo- and NBC-owned stations’ TV, streaming and digital platforms. Our Planet: Stories That Connect Us is now available on the Telemundo regional news and NBC local news streaming channels. Check local station websites and listings for more information.
