Telemundo’s South Florida Commitment
June 15, 2023
Miami is one of the nation’s Hispanic hubs, with a diverse population that includes individuals and families from across Latin America, as well as generations of Latinos who have grown up in the United States but maintain deep ties to their Hispanic heritage and cultural roots.
NBCUniversal’s Telemundo has called Miami-Dade home for decades. In 2018, however, the network’s commitment to the city, its homegrown talent, and its growing Hispanic audience was further solidified with the commitment to build a new headquarters and entertainment complex, The Telemundo Center.
Telemundo Center marks one of the largest investments in South Florida broadcast history. Totaling an astonishing 500,000 square feet, this state-of-the-art production facility includes 13 studios, 48 open edit bay workstations, and 7 control rooms across a 21-acre campus.
This facility is the only multi-media and production center in the United States able to produce news, sports, entertainment, and digital content – all under one roof. And its more than 3000 hours of content is created and delivered to eager audiences each year by over 1,300 year-round employees filling both corporate and creative positions.
Telemundo’s investment in Miami doesn’t stop there. Telemundo also launched Telemundo Streaming Studios, the first-ever studio in Hispanic media dedicated to creating streaming content exclusively for the growing U.S. Hispanic market and Latinos around the world. This move quickly solidified Telemundo as the top producer of Spanish-language scripted content in the U.S. across all platforms and continues to push the envelope for Hispanic media further than it has ever been before.
This content is being brought to life by the wealth of talent that can be found in Miami. Writers, actors, directors, voice-over artists, graphics experts, and musicians all call Miami home and have helped transform it into a world-class entertainment city. One that proudly represents the cultural diversity found across Latin America and among Hispanic communities here in the United States.
This talent has helped make Telemundo one of the fastest-growing broadcast networks in prime time, regardless of language. Telemundo hits La Reina del Sur and El Señor de los Cielos, as well as first-rate reality programming like Top Chef VIP, Exatlón Estados Unidos (now in its 8th season), and La Casa de Los Famosos, are wildly popular and have spurred growth in key market segments for the network.
Telemundo also set records as the official Spanish-speaking home of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, dominating across all platforms fueled in part by streaming powered by Peacock. Plus, for the first time ever, all 64 matches were covered from studios at Telemundo Center and locations throughout Doha, securing the network’s position as the #1 Spanish-language TV network over the course of the entire World Cup. As the exclusive Spanish-language home of upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ and of the United States Women’s and Men’s National Teams, Telemundo continues to be the destination for the premier sports programming in Spanish language, delivering a comprehensive offering of live coverage of the most significant and in-demand sporting events. Across its award-winning news programs, Noticias Telemundo uses insightful on-the-ground reporting and the latest innovative storytelling tools to chronicle the most important issues impacting Latinos. As the 2024 presidential race begins in earnest, Noticias Telemundo plans to deliver comprehensive multi-platform coverage of the candidates and issues shaping next year’s election. With the Latino vote more important than ever, Noticias Telemundo remains the most reliable source of news and information on national and international issues and topics facing Hispanics.
A deep connection with the Hispanic community lies at the core of Telemundo’s success in Miami and beyond. The network continues to make both financial and cultural commitments to the city and its Hispanic community, proving itself be a vocal advocate for Latinos, as well as an entertainment and content innovator.
